Learn how to increase comfort and functioning in your PT clients! This seminar provides an introduction to Guided Imagery and Hypnosis (GI-H) appropriate in a physical therapy setting. Definitions, myths, supporting research and appropriate applications of GI-H to a PT setting will be described and demonstrated. Participants will experience GI-H and practice the applications under supervision so they can implement them in rehab settings.
Target Audience: Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants.
Presenters
Charlotte A. Strub, PT, SCS, ATC, has 28 years experience working with physical therapy patients of all ages from adolescents to geriatrics and in many settings: out-patient orthopedic settings, pain clinics, sports medicine clinics and with high school and college athletic programs. She worked at the US Olympic Festival and spent 2 weeks at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Janet S. Wahl, PhD (Language, Literacy and Learning), Certified in Hypnosis, Specializing in Medical Support Hypnosis.
At the end of Day 1, participants will be able to
- Explain how Guided Imagery-Hypnosis works
- Experience themselves the relaxation of GI-H
- Explain benefits of Guided Imagery-Hypnosis in a PT setting based on current research
- Identify negative statements in a PT setting and restate them in positive terms
At the end of Day 2
- Lead another person into relaxation
- Through the use of a script, give a Comfort Dial to a partner

CEU: Day 1 = 6 CEU's, Days 1 & 2 = 12 CEU's, Day 1 is a pre-requisite to Day 2. Participants must complete the whole day to receive a CEU certificate of completion. This course has been approved by APTA New Mexico Chapter.
